Pawar urges Tata Group to respect Trusts governance rights
Sharad Pawar, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party SP, called on Tuesday for the Tata Group to resolve its leadership dispute through due process and dialogue, urging that the Tata Trusts' institutional role and affirmative voting rights be respected under the company's governance framework. In a public letter posted on social media, Pawar said the issue should be settled in accordance with the Tata Sons Articles of Association and that protecting the group's trust-based legacy was essential to preserving its contribution to India's development. He argued that the ownership structure, in which the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, with allied trusts, hold about 66 percent of Tata Sons, was designed so that no individual would own the group and that dividends from the majority stake flow into health, education, research and rural livelihoods. Pawar's intervention follows the Tata Sons board meeting on September 17, 2026, at which the board voted 4-1 to reappoint N. Chandrasekaran as Executive Chairman for a five-year term beginning in February 2027 and approved steps toward a public listing of Tata Sons.
