Parties name 2027 gov candidates
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has firmly rejected reports alleging it lacks governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting it has nominees in all 28 states where gubernatorial contests are scheduled. In a statement issued on Saturday, September 5, 2026, the party's National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, described the claims as false and an attempt to undermine its growing political strength. The NDC asserted that it has completed its nomination process and is fully prepared for the 2027 elections, maintaining that it has structures and candidates across the country. Director stated that the party was not a regional organization but a national movement with a presence in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. To counter the disputed report, the NDC released the names of its governorship candidates for the 12 states in question. These include Senator Kabiru Marafa for Zamfara State, retired Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim for Borno, Hon. John Odey for Cross River, Babanta Michael Okon for Akwa Ibom, and Nwofe Boniface for Ebonyi.
