Paramount Releases Trailer for NFL Biopic Mr. Irrelevant
Paramount Pictures released the first trailer on September 13, 2026, for "Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story," a biopic about the NFL's last draft pick. The film stars David Corenswet as John Tuggle, the running back selected 335th overall by the New York Giants in the 1983 NFL Draft, a position traditionally given the tongue-in-cheek title "Mr. Irrelevant." The trailer introduces the true story of Tuggle's journey from the final pick to a roster spot on the Giants. Despite his draft position, Tuggle earned a place on the team through special teams play and a relentless work ethic, eventually being voted the team's special teams player of the year during his rookie season. The film follows his inspirational rise and the subsequent challenge he faced when diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 1984. Tuggle continued to inspire his teammates while battling the illness. He passed away in August 1986 at the age of 25, just before the start of a season that would culminate in the Giants winning Super Bowl XXI. The team honored his legacy during that championship run by wearing a decal of his No. 38 jersey on their helmets.
