Pakistan reports progress in Tehran talks on Iran-US conflict

Pakistan announced significant progress in high-level talks held in Tehran on Monday aimed at de-escalating the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. The diplomatic mission, led by Pakistan's army chief and interior minister, focused on preventing further military escalation, reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and reviving a stalled memorandum of understanding to end the war. The discussions took place on August 25, 2026, during a daylong visit to the Iranian capital. Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and other senior officials.
