Oyinkansola BadejoOkusanya Inaugurated as 33rd NBA President

Oyinkansola BadejoOkusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was inaugurated as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association on Friday, August 28, 2026, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She succeeds Afam Osigwe, SAN, whose two-year tenure concluded with the ceremony. BadejoOkusanya immediately outlined a firm stance against professional misconduct and pledged to defend judicial independence while demanding greater efficiency in the justice system. The inauguration took place during the NBA's 66th Annual General Conference. In her inaugural address, BadejoOkusanya warned that her administration would have little tolerance for lawyers who use abusive or insulting language against colleagues, particularly on social media over political differences. She stated that such conduct brings the profession into disrepute and that offenders would face disciplinary action and public proceedings. "So, we're coming after you," she said. BadejoOkusanya also emphasized a commitment to the judiciary, stating the NBA would defend its independence while not remaining silent about delays, conflicting judgments, corruption, or other practices that undermine public confidence.
