Osun tribunal begins, conflicting reports on petitions

The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has formally commenced proceedings following the August 15 election, though conflicting reports emerged regarding the filing of challenges to the outcome. According to one account, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed separate petitions challenging the election results. The APC's petition, marked EPTOSGOV012026, was reportedly filed by its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Accord Party, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The PDP's petition, marked EPTOSGOV022026, was reportedly filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, also naming Governor Adeleke, INEC, and the Accord Party as respondents. The tribunal secretary confirmed that petitions had been received, and notices were displayed to initiate the legal process. However, another report indicated that the tribunal received no petitions challenging the election outcome within the constitutionally stipulated 21-day window, which closed on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
