Osun Governor Meets Tinubu, Presents Certificate of Return

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, presenting his Certificate of Return from the August 15 governorship election. The visit marked the first known encounter between the two leaders at Aso Rock since Adeleke secured a second term in office. Adeleke arrived at the State House around 5:20 p.m. local time and proceeded to a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu. He was accompanied by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and several political associates. During the visit, the governor formally presented the Certificate of Return, which he had received from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osogbo on Wednesday. The governor won the August 15 election on the platform of the Accord Party, securing 511,067 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. Adeleke carried 19 of the state's 30 local government areas. His victory follows his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he won his first term in 2022. Despite his new party affiliation, the Osun PDP chapter supported his reelection bid.
