Osinbajo Warns of Chemicals in Nigerian Food

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has raised concerns about the use of dangerous chemicals in the ripening and preservation of fruits and vegetables in Nigeria, sharing a personal experience in which laboratory tests allegedly showed his wife's freshly squeezed orange juice was unfit for human consumption. Osinbajo made the disclosure while speaking at the Open Day for Gardeners Seminar in Lagos on August 28, 2026. A video of his remarks was later shared on his YouTube channel. According to Osinbajo, his wife, Dolapo, had stopped drinking carbonated beverages years ago and developed a daily habit of consuming freshly squeezed orange juice. He described this as a "very healthy habit." However, she began experiencing recurring, unexplained headaches. The family initially did not suspect the juice, considering it a healthy choice. After other potential causes were ruled out, a batch of the juice was sent for laboratory testing. The results, Osinbajo said, indicated the juice was not fit for human consumption. He did not disclose the specific substance found in the juice.
