Ortiz indicted on 14 counts in Rihanna shooting case

Published 30 September 2026

A Los Angeles County grand jury indicted Ivanna Lisette Ortiz on 14 felony counts in connection with a March 8 shooting at Rihanna’s home, moving the case forward after a judge found her competent to stand trial. The indictment was unsealed September 30, and Ortiz pleaded not guilty in court. The charges include one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with an assault weapon and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. The indictment replaces earlier charges, which were dismissed after the grand jury returned its decision on June 18. The document remained sealed while Ortiz underwent psychiatric evaluations and the court considered her competency. Judge Maria Cavalluzzi ruled September 29 that Ortiz could understand the proceedings and assist in her defense. The decision allowed the criminal case to resume after it had been paused for the evaluations. Details of those evaluations have not been made public. The competency finding addresses Ortiz’s ability to face the case; it does not determine whether she committed the alleged offenses. Prosecutors allege that Ortiz fired at least 20 rounds toward the occupied property and a neighboring residence.
