Opposition Coalition Only Way to Beat Tinubu

A unified opposition coalition is the only viable path to unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, according to Kenneth Okonkwo, a spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign. Okonkwo stated that any attempt by opposition parties to field a solitary presidential candidate would fail, regardless of running mate choices. Speaking in an interview on Thursday, Okonkwo dismissed the prospects of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), defeating President Tinubu on his own. He cited the 2023 election results as evidence that Obi would not gain sufficient support in key regions, particularly Kano State, in 2027. "Coalition is the only way out," Okonkwo asserted, adding that Tinubu's approach to power involves fighting, grabbing, and snatching it. He warned that if Peter Obi contests alone against Tinubu, the president would "eat him like biscuits." Okonkwo also expressed skepticism about the potential impact of former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso on a ticket with Obi. He claimed Kwankwaso has "nothing to contribute" and has lost influence even in Kano.
