Operation Rotten Apple Nets 2,100 Arrests in New York

Federal immigration authorities arrested more than 2,100 people during a monthlong operation in New York, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced on Tuesday. The enforcement action, dubbed Operation Rotten Apple, targeted individuals with criminal records and was conducted without cooperation from state and local officials, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Mullin stated the operation ran from July 27 to August 29, 2026, and resulted in the detention of 2,197 people across New York state. At a press conference in Lower Manhattan, he described those arrested as "criminals," including gang members, rapists, murderers, and child predators.
