OpenAI Parts Ways With Three Employees Over Sensitive Information

Published 1 October 2026

OpenAI said it has parted ways with three employees after an internal investigation found they mishandled sensitive company information outside established procedures and violated company policies. The company did not identify the employees or specify what information was involved. An OpenAI spokesperson said the investigation found the employees had breached rules for accessing and handling sensitive information. The spokesperson said the conduct also broke the trust required for the company’s work. The account of the investigation comes from the company; the supplied reports include no underlying documents or response from the former employees. The Wall Street Journal reported that the employees allegedly shared confidential information with an outside AI-safety organization. Separately, a person familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that an outside group received company details, including some information about how OpenAI’s systems are built. The recipient and the material have not been publicly identified by OpenAI, and the reports do not establish the full scope of what was shared.
