Ontario byelections: PCs hold two, NDP holds one

The outcomes saw the governing PCs retain ridings in Hamilton East-Stoney Creek and York-Simcoe, while the NDP kept its seat in Scarborough Southwest. In Hamilton East-Stoney Creek, Progressive Conservative candidate Jeff Beattie, a Hamilton city councillor, won with approximately 39 percent of the vote, defeating NDP candidate Monique Taylor, a former MPP, by a margin of about seven points. The seat was previously held by PC cabinet minister Neil Lumsden, who retired in June. Premier Doug Ford traveled to Hamilton to congratulate Beattie, framing the victory as a mandate for his government’s stance against U.S. tariffs. “We’re going to fight against Donald Trump. We’re going to make sure that we protect peoples jobs, protect their communities,” Ford said at the victory event.
