One-year-old girl dies in Warwickshire as two arrested

A one-year-old girl has died in Atherstone, Warwickshire, after emergency services responded to a report of a child in cardiac arrest. The incident occurred at a home on Long Street at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026. Warwickshire Police and paramedics were called to the scene. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the child was pronounced dead. A 19-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were arrested at the location on suspicion of child neglect. In an update on Sunday, September 13, police confirmed the two suspects were subsequently further arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child. Both individuals have been bailed with strict conditions while the investigation continues. Detective Chief Inspector Martyn Kendall of the Major Investigation Unit stated, "This tragic death has understandably caused a great deal of shock and concern in the local community. The two suspects arrested have now been bailed with strict conditions." He added, "We are waiting for a post mortem which will help us shed more light on the circumstances leading up to her death.
