One Dead, Nine Injured in Chicago Mass Shooting

A mass shooting at a large gathering in Chicago's Washington Park neighborhood left one man dead and nine other people injured late Saturday night, according to police. The incident occurred as officers were working to disperse a crowd in the 5400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. The shooting began around 11:37 p.m. on August 29, 2026. Police reported that unknown gunmen opened fire into the crowd. A 35-year-old man was shot multiple times and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the fatality. Nine other victims were injured in the attack.
