Oil Prices Fall on Hormuz Corridor Talks

Published 26 August 2026

Global oil prices fell sharply on Wednesday, August 26, as renewed diplomatic efforts to reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz to shipping raised hopes for easing supply disruptions and prompted traders to reduce risk premiums. Brent crude futures declined by 2.6 percent to settle at $86.30 per barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures dropped 2.7 percent to $80.18. This followed significant losses the previous day, when both benchmarks had fallen by more than 3 percent. The market movement was directly linked to the resumption of talks between Iran and Oman regarding a temporary joint navigation passage through the strait.
