Ohtani Bullpen Session Raises Questions About Pitching Return

Published 29 August 2026

Shohei Ohtani's return to the pitcher's mound remains uncertain after the Los Angeles Dodgers star reported feeling less than 100 percent following a scheduled bullpen session on August 29, 2026. The two-way player threw approximately 20 pitches at Comerica Park in Detroit, but the session did not resolve questions about his availability for an imminent start. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the team has not decided whether Ohtani will pitch in the coming days, with a potential start on Sunday, August 30, or Tuesday, September 1, now in doubt. Ohtani has not pitched in a game since July 3 due to inflammation in his left knee. He is also managing right biceps soreness.
