Ohio Man Recaptured After Violent Courthouse Escape Attempt
Timothy J. Reaggle, a 20-year-old Ohio man, was subdued with a Taser and recaptured after a violent escape attempt at the Columbiana County Courthouse on Monday, moments after being sentenced to a year in prison. The incident left two law enforcement officers with broken bones. Reaggle was being escorted from the courtroom in Lisbon after Judge Scott Washam imposed the sentence when he managed to free himself from his handcuffs. Security video shows him turning and punching bailiff Keith Thorn in the throat. He then sprinted down a second-floor hallway, colliding with and knocking down bailiff Steve Boyd before heading toward a stairwell. Deputies pursued Reaggle down the stairs. He was confronted by Deputy Nick Rusyn, Deputy Coltan Vollnogle, and Detective Jesse Smith. After initially breaking free from their grasp, Rusyn deployed a Taser, stopping Reaggle near the courthouse security station before he could reach the front doors. Officers then wrestled him into custody. Columbiana County Sheriff Brian McLaughlin confirmed that both Thorn and Boyd suffered broken bones during the attack.
