Christopher Nolan's epic film "The Odyssey" has achieved a rare box office milestone, surpassing $1.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales and extending its record-breaking IMAX 70mm run through September 30, 2026. The adaptation of Homer's classic Greek poem, which opened in theaters on July 17, 2026, has become the highest-grossing IMAX release of all time, earning $457 million globally across IMAX screens. The film's success marks a significant achievement, particularly for a non-sequel or remake. "The Odyssey" is the first Hollywood movie not part of a franchise or remake to cross the $1 billion international box office threshold since "Avatar" in 2009. Of its total global gross, which stands at over $1.55 billion, $1.014 billion comes from international territories, with key markets including the United Kingdom, Ireland, China, and France. "The Odyssey" has also set records as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and is now director Christopher Nolan's biggest film to date, surpassing "The Dark Knight Rises." It ranks as the second-highest-grossing movie of 2026 worldwide, trailing only "Spider-Man Brand New Day.
