NYPD releases footage of fatal Times Square shooting

The New York Police Department released body-camera footage Friday showing officers fatally shooting Pamela Cisneros during a confrontation in Times Square on August 31. Police said Cisneros, 49, was holding two knives and had stabbed two people before officers encountered her. One of those victims, Erin Piacenti, died; a 68-year-old man survived. The recording shows officers repeatedly telling Cisneros to put down the knives as they spoke with her for several minutes. She replies, “Come and get me,” and says she is tired of the world. At another point, she tells officers they will have to kill her. The footage documents the exchange, but does not independently establish what happened in the earlier stabbings. Police said officers used Tasers when Cisneros did not put down the knives. The devices did not stop her, according to the accounts accompanying the video. She then advanced toward the officers, and two officers fired at her. Cisneros was taken to a hospital, where she died. The reports identify the officers who fired as Joseph O’Connor and Steven Darcy. According to police, Cisneros stabbed Piacenti, 32, and a 68-year-old man before the encounter.
