NYC Mayor Announces 1,000 Discounted US Open Tickets for Residents

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, that 1,000 discounted tickets to the 2026 US Open will be made available exclusively to city residents, addressing public concern over surging prices for the major tennis tournament. The tickets, priced at $100 each, will go on sale Wednesday, August 26, at 10 a.m. ET on a first-come, first-served basis through a dedicated portal. The initiative, a collaboration between the mayor's office and the United States Tennis Association, provides access to main draw matches from Sunday, August 30, through Tuesday, September 8. The offer includes seats in the tournament's primary venues, Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium, as well as grounds passes. Eligibility is restricted to residents with certified New York City zip codes, with a limit of two tickets per purchase. Mayor Mamdani framed the move as a matter of equity. "If the world's best tennis players are coming to our city, New Yorkers should be able to see them play," he stated. He noted that too many residents were being priced out of attending major sporting events in their own city.
