Nvidia unveils factory-built AI data center design
Nvidia on October 21 unveiled DSX POD, a reference design for factory-built Vera Rubin AI data center systems that the company says could cut deployment at prepared sites from about six months to as little as 14 days. The system is not yet in service, and the 14-day figure is a company target rather than a demonstrated operating result. Under the design, manufacturing partners assemble and test computing racks inside modular containers before shipping them to customers. Factory work includes cabling, power wiring and liquid-cooling equipment. The containers are intended to arrive ready to connect to a site’s power, cooling and networking infrastructure. Nvidia says the shorter timeline depends on that infrastructure already being prepared. Crews would still need to connect the delivered units to site systems and complete final testing and commissioning. The proposed approach moves more assembly and validation off-site; it does not eliminate construction or preparation at the destination. The company introduced DSX POD at its GTC Berlin event. It named partners including Dell Technologies, Foxconn Ingrasys, HPE and Lenovo, among others, to build and deliver the systems. Nvidia...
