Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU prices soar to over $9,000 amid AI demand

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card, launched in January 2025 with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $1,999, is now routinely listed for between $6,000 and over $11,000 in the United States. Major online retailers like Newegg and Amazon show little to no first-party stock, with available units coming exclusively from third-party marketplace sellers, some with weak ratings. The cheapest model found in recent checks was an MSI Ventus listed at $6,549, while high-end versions like the Asus ROG Astral have reached nearly $9,700, and a gold-plated edition was offered for $11,999. The extreme price inflation is attributed to a combination of ongoing memory shortages and heightened demand from the artificial intelligence sector. Reports indicate that Chinese and Hong Kong-based warehouses have been acquiring thousands of RTX 5090 GPUs in bulk. These cards are then reportedly retrofitted with custom cooling solutions and printed circuit boards for use in AI servers and workstations.
