Nvidia PAIR tool creates distributed home AI data centers

Nvidia has released a free, open-source tool called Personal AI Router, or PAIR, designed to transform idle home computers into a distributed personal AI data center. Announced at IFA 2026, the software allows users to pool the processing power of multiple compatible devices on a local network to run artificial intelligence workloads more efficiently. PAIR acts as a virtual router, sitting between AI applications and the computers on a user's network. It automatically discovers devices with available resources, such as spare GPUs or processing capacity, and routes AI tasks to them. This distribution prevents complex AI jobs from overloading a single machine, which can lead to performance slowdowns. Instead, tasks are broken down into smaller parts and sent to various computers, with results then reassembled. The tool is currently in public beta and supports Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. Compatible hardware includes Nvidia GeForce RTX 20 series GPUs and newer, RTX PRO workstation GPUs based on Turing architecture and newer, Nvidia DGX Spark systems, and Apple devices with M4 chips or newer.
