Nvidia launches CUDA-Q Logical for fault-tolerant quantum computing

Nvidia has launched a new orchestration layer for its open-source quantum computing platform, designed to help researchers build applications for fault-tolerant quantum processors. The new tool, called CUDA-Q Logical, was announced at the IEEE Quantum Week 2026 conference in Toronto on September 14, 2026. The software aims to solve a major challenge in quantum development: designing applications for machines that do not yet exist. Creating software for fault-tolerant systems requires simultaneously guessing at algorithms, error-correction codes, and hardware architectures, with changes to one element rewriting the resource requirements for the others. CUDA-Q Logical provides a programmable environment to simulate and test these components side-by-side, allowing developers to find optimal configurations before building physical hardware. Early adopters report significant time savings. Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory used the tool to explore combinations of algorithms, error-correction strategies, and architectures in three weeks, a process its chief technology officer said would normally take about five months.
