Nvidia DLSS 5 AI Graphics Launches With NBA 2K27
Nvidia's DLSS 5 technology, a new AI-driven graphics feature that uses generative AI to enhance game visuals, is set to launch on September 3, 2026, with the game NBA 2K27. The release marks the first public deployment of the controversial "3DGuided Neural Rendering" system, which aims to improve lighting and material details in real-time games but has drawn criticism for altering character appearances and impacting performance. The technology, which requires GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards, is designed to go beyond traditional performance enhancement. According to Nvidia, DLSS 5 uses AI to generate richer lighting and material details that real-time performance constraints previously forced developers to omit. The system works by taking a game's already rendered frame as a foundation and then applying neural rendering to enhance visual fidelity while preserving the original artistic intent. Nvidia states that developers retain control over the intensity and application of the effect, and can choose to disable it entirely. However, the technology has faced significant backlash since its initial announcement.
