Nvidia CEO Rejects AI Extinction Risk Claims

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has publicly and repeatedly dismissed warnings that artificial intelligence poses an existential risk to humanity by 2030, stating there is a "0% chance" such a scenario will occur. His comments, made in a CBS News interview set to air in full on Sunday, September 20, place him in direct opposition to a growing chorus of AI researchers and executives who advocate for caution and potential regulatory slowdowns. Huang argued that doomsday claims are "stirring fear across America" and suggested those making them have "ulterior reasons," such as politics or attention-seeking. He stated the industry should not slow its development pace, saying, "We should go as fast as we can, irrespective of anyone else." However, he added that companies must never ship products before they are ready or deliver unsafe technology. The Nvidia chief's stance contrasts with recent warnings from within the AI safety community. Earlier in September, former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon resigned over safety concerns, cautioning that AI researchers "genuinely believe" the software could eradicate humanity by the end of the decade.
