Novo Nordisk Stock Plunges After Growth Strategy Disappoints Investors

Published 21 September 2026

Novo Nordisk shares fell sharply on Monday, September 21, 2026, after the Danish pharmaceutical company presented a long-term growth strategy that failed to satisfy investors seeking more concrete near-term targets amid intensifying competition. The stock declined as much as 9% in Copenhagen trading following the company's Capital Markets Day presentation in London. At the event, Novo Nordisk outlined plans to launch more than five multiblockbuster products by 2030 and projected its risk-adjusted pipeline would generate over DKK 150 billion (approximately $23 billion) in sales by 2035. However, the company also stated that its revenue growth from 2026 through 2030 is expected to be in line with pharmaceutical industry peers, a forecast that disappointed investors who had anticipated more aggressive expansion targets. Chief Executive Mike Doustdar acknowledged the competitive challenges facing the company. "We need to work harder, and we will," he told analysts, noting that Novo Nordisk created an attractive market that now attracts competitors from across the pharmaceutical industry.
