Novo Nordisk partners with Anthropic to use AI for drug discovery

Novo Nordisk and Anthropic announced a collaboration on September 16 to use artificial intelligence to accelerate drug discovery and software development. The partnership will see the Danish pharmaceutical company, known for Ozempic and Wegovy, integrate Anthropic's AI models, including the Claude Science workbench, into its research and development operations. The companies stated they will work together on specific drug discovery challenges identified by Novo's scientists and computational teams. The initial phase will involve testing Claude Science on selected R&D workflows where the combined capabilities of both firms are expected to have the greatest impact. Novo will also use Anthropic's frontier models to bolster its internal, AI-driven software development. "Joining forces with Anthropic will supercharge our R&D organisation and help us on our mission to bring new, transformative health solutions to people living with chronic diseases," said Mike Doustdar, president and chief executive of Novo. He added that AI can help increase productivity in R&D and compress the path from research to marketed product.
