Notting Hill Carnival Sees 169 Arrests on First Full Day
London's Notting Hill Carnival recorded 169 arrests on its first full day of celebration on Sunday, August 30, 2026, despite a major security operation and what police described as an overwhelmingly positive atmosphere. The arrests, which included charges for drug and weapons possession, assaults, and sexual offenses, occurred during the Children's Day and Jouvert opening celebrations of the event's 60th anniversary. The Metropolitan Police deployed approximately 7,000 officers for the bank holiday weekend and reported that the majority of the 169 arrests took place within the event's perimeter, with 27 occurring on approaches to the site.
