Noskova advances to US Open quarterfinals

Published 6 September 2026

Linda Noskova advanced to the U.S. Open quarterfinals on Sunday, September 6, 2026, with a hard-fought 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Marta Kostyuk. The Wimbledon champion secured her spot in the final eight at Louis Armstrong Stadium after overcoming the frustration of squandering multiple match points, a scenario that echoed her triumph at the All England Club earlier this year. Noskova, the sixth seed, held a commanding position in the second set, serving for the match at 5-4. However, she was unable to convert two match points, allowing Kostyuk, the eleventh seed, to rally and win the set 7-5, forcing a decisive third set. The Czech player eventually sealed the victory on her sixth match point overall, collapsing to the court in relief. "Very tough match," Noskova said after the contest. "We definitely didn't hold back, neither of us. So, a lot of opportunities I had, especially in the second set. Couldn't really close it out, but yeah, I had to wait for it and just keep going.
