North Korea announces new weapons test overseen by Kim Jong Un

North Korea announced on Tuesday that it successfully tested a new weapons system on Sunday, with leader Kim Jong Un overseeing the launch and describing it as a demonstration of "ultramodern" defense technology. The announcement came two days after South Korea's military detected two short-range ballistic missiles fired from the Wonsan area on North Korea's eastern coast. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that the missiles flew approximately 450 kilometers and 600 kilometers toward the sea. Japan's military confirmed the missiles landed outside its exclusive economic zone. The launches were condemned by Seoul as a violation of UN Security Council resolutions, while Japan lodged a stern protest, calling them a threat to regional peace and security. According to the Korean Central News Agency, Kim stated the test was carried out by North Korea's Missile Administration and represented "clear progress in the modernization of the armed forces." He warned that the new technology would give adversaries an "incurable headache" and a "very cruel and unavoidable blow.
