North Carolina Warns Petting Zoo Visitors After Rabies Found in Goats

Published 30 August 2026

Health officials in North Carolina are urgently contacting anyone who may have touched baby goats from a mobile petting zoo after laboratory tests confirmed rabies in several of the animals. The warning applies to individuals who had close contact with the goats from Farm Adventures, based in Iredell County, at its Harmony location or at offsite events between July 28 and August 27. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced that three baby goats tested positive for rabies at the State Laboratory of Public Health on August 28. A fourth goat was not tested but is assumed to have been infected. All four animals were euthanized.
