Norris Tests McLaren Hypercar at Portimão, Fuelling Le Mans Speculation

Lando Norris completed a full-day test of McLaren's MCLHY Le Mans Hypercar at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão on Monday, September 14, 2026. The reigning Formula 1 world champion drove the V6-powered endurance car for the first time in a private session, finishing 38 laps and covering 177 miles. The test was designed to gather development feedback for the car, which will spearhead McLaren's return to the World Endurance Championship in 2027. Norris was joined at the Portuguese circuit by McLaren's confirmed 2027 WEC drivers, Mikkel Jensen and Laurens Vanthoor. The session allowed the team to evaluate development items while integrating the F1 star into the endurance programme. McLaren team principal James Barclay said Norris "adapted very quickly, integrated seamlessly and provided valuable feedback to support the car's development." The test followed Norris's public debut in the MCLHY at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. After the session, Norris expressed his enthusiasm, stating he "can't wait to get back in the car in the future." This comment has fueled speculation about a potential race appearance for the F1 champion in the 2027 24 Hours of Le Mans.
