NISO Links Shorter Power Supply to Gas and Hydro Constraints
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) said gas supply constraints and reduced hydroelectric output have cut available electricity generation, leading to shorter supply hours and increased load shedding across distribution networks. The operator attributed the constraints to limited gas for thermal power plants and lower water inflows into reservoirs used by hydroelectric stations. In a statement issued Thursday, November 5, NISO said limited gas availability had restricted the ability of affected thermal plants to generate at their available levels. Reduced reservoir inflows had also lowered output from hydroelectric power stations, it said. The operator did not provide figures for the generation shortfall or the amount of electricity lost from either source. NISO said the decline in available generation had reduced the electricity allocated to distribution companies for delivery to consumers. The resulting supply impact varies among companies according to available generation and their allocations, it said. Across their networks, distribution companies have responded with shorter electricity supply hours and increased load shedding. In some Lagos communities, Eko...
