Nike to Exit S&P 100 Index September 21
Nike Inc. will be removed from the S&P 100 index effective before the market opens on September 21, 2026, marking the end of an 18-year tenure for the athletic apparel giant in the benchmark of large U.S. companies. The change, announced by S&P Dow Jones Indices as part of its regular quarterly rebalance, comes as Nike's stock price and market value have declined sharply over several years. Nike will remain a member of the broader S&P 500 index. The S&P 100 is a subset of the S&P 500 that focuses on some of the largest and most established U.S. companies. Nike had been a member since December 2008. The company's stock closed at $38.40 on September 4, a level last seen approximately 12 years earlier. From its peak in November 2021, Nike's shares have fallen roughly 76 percent. The company's market capitalization, which reached between $264 billion and $280 billion at the end of 2021, stood near $57 billion in early September 2026, a reduction of more than $200 billion. Three other companies will also leave the S&P 100 on the same date: Honeywell Aerospace, Simon Property Group, and Colgate-Palmolive.
