Nigeria petrol supply falls 10% in July as imports rise

Published 26 August 2026

Nigeria's petrol supply weakened significantly in July 2026, with average daily receipts of Premium Motor Spirit falling to 45.5 million litres from 50.6 million litres in June, according to data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority. The 10 percent decline was driven by a sharp drop in domestic supply, which fell 21 percent to 25.8 million litres per day, even as imports of the product rose 9 percent to 19.7 million litres daily. The figures highlight a shifting supply dynamic in Africa's largest oil producer, where a resurgence in imported fuel is offsetting a decline in output from local refineries.
