Nigeria NPC Chairman Aminu Yusuf Dies at 66

Dr. Aminu Yusuf, the Chairman of Nigeria's National Population Commission (NPC), died on Friday, August 28, 2026, in Abuja after a brief illness. He was 66 years old. His death was confirmed by his Special Adviser on Media, Stanley Nwosu, and occurred approximately eight months after he was sworn in to lead the agency responsible for the country's demographic data and census planning. Yusuf, who held the traditional title of Talban Wushishi, was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in October 2025 and was sworn in on December 2, 2025. He formally assumed office the following day, succeeding Nasir Isa Kwarra.
