Nigeria assures King's College workers of job security amid dispute

The Nigerian Federal Government has assured workers at King's College, Lagos, that none will be sacked or victimized following a dispute over a proposed management arrangement with the institution's Old Boys Association. The assurance came after a high-level meeting on Monday between the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other affiliated unions. The meeting was convened to address growing concerns among workers and organized labor over the proposed administrative changes, particularly the use of the term "concessioning," which had created uncertainty about the future of the historic school and the status of its employees. The dispute had previously triggered an instruction for workers in all federal unity colleges to down tools. Following the meeting, Alausa announced that the government would proceed with the arrangement allowing the King's College Old Boys Association (KCOBA) to continue managing the institution. However, he stated that a seven-member committee would be constituted to review the signed agreement and consider additional recommendations.
