Newark: 4-year-old dies in motorbike crash, man charged

A four-year-old boy died after the off-road motorbike he was a passenger on collided with a car in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Robert Henry Steele was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, August 30, 2026, on Churchill Drive. Robert Henry's mother, Tilly Robinson, released a statement through Nottinghamshire Police describing her son as her "beautiful boy" and her "pride and joy." She said her heart would be "forever broken" by his tragic loss. "He may have only had four precious years with us but he was such a big character, full of love, big smiles and cheeky charm," she stated. She also expressed gratitude to the emergency services and members of the public who assisted at the scene. Police reported that the off-road motorbike was traveling in convoy with a second bike. The rider of that second bike reportedly left the scene before officers arrived. A 24-year-old man, who was riding on the same motorbike as Robert Henry, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He sustained serious injuries in the collision and remains in hospital.
