Netflix Series Revisits Unsolved Lizzie Borden Murders

Netflix has released the fourth installment of its true-crime anthology series, "Monster," with a new season focusing on the infamous 1892 murders of Andrew and Abby Borden and the subsequent trial of their daughter, Lizzie Borden. The series, which premiered on September 17, 2026, dramatizes the events leading up to the killings and the trial that captivated the nation, but it takes creative liberties with the historical record. The real-life case remains one of America's most enduring mysteries. On August 4, 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally attacked with a hatchet in their Fall River, Massachusetts, home. Abby was killed first in an upstairs guest room, suffering 19 blows. Andrew was attacked later, receiving around 11 blows while resting on a sofa. Lizzie Borden and the family's maid, Bridget Sullivan, were the only people at home during the critical period. Lizzie was arrested on August 11, 1892, and her trial began in June 1893. The prosecution's case was largely circumstantial.
