Netflix faces boycott calls over post on Kirk anniversary

Netflix is facing a wave of boycott calls after its official UK and Ireland social media account posted a caption about a neck injury on the first anniversary of the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The post, published on September 10, 2026, featured images from the second season of the Netflix series "The Gentlemen" and included the text "Nearly did himself a neck injury." Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot in the neck at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, an event Utah authorities described as a political assassination. The timing and wording of the post immediately sparked outrage among conservative figures and social media users, who accused the streaming service of making a veiled reference to Kirk's death. Prominent voices, including commentator Jack Posobiec and the account Libs of TikTok, urged followers to cancel their Netflix subscriptions. Numerous users subsequently posted screenshots of their cancellation confirmations online. Daily Wire host Matt Walsh wrote that the post was "way too much of a coincidence" and called it "despicable." Netflix has denied any intentional connection to real-world events.
