Netflix developing D&D Ravenloft series

Netflix is developing a live-action series based on the popular gothic horror setting of Dungeons & Dragons' Ravenloft, focusing on the origin story of its most notorious villain, Strahd von Zarovich. The project hails from writer and executive producer John August, executive producer Alfonso Cuarón, and Hasbro Entertainment, the owner of the Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property through its subsidiary Wizards of the Coast. The series is described as a prestige fantasy drama that blends adventure with gothic horror and tragic romance. It will delve into the complex narrative of Strahd von Zarovich, tracing his transformation from a tragic antihero into the vampire lord who rules over Barovia and the Demiplane of Dread. This new project is a standalone endeavor and is not connected to a previously announced live-action Dungeons & Dragons series set in the Forgotten Realms, which is no longer moving forward at Netflix. Ravenloft, first introduced as an adventure module in 1983 and later becoming an official campaign setting in 1990, is one of Dungeons & Dragons' most enduring and popular worlds.
