Netanyahu Says Israel Warned UK of Iran-Linked Attack

Published 1 October 2026

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had warned Britain about an Iranian-sponsored attack shortly before the UK announced sanctions on products from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. His account has not been independently confirmed, and it remains unclear whether the warning referred to suspicious activity under investigation near RAF Fairford. Netanyahu made the claim in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity. He said Israel had given Britain intelligence that an attack was planned and linked the warning to the UK sanctions announcement, which took place on September 8. He did not provide details of the intelligence. The supplied accounts do not establish when the warning was delivered or whether it concerned the Fairford incident. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on September 30 that there were strong indications Iran had played a part in suspicious activity near RAF Fairford, a military airbase in Gloucestershire. He described the police inquiry as ongoing, complex and serious, and said he could not provide further details. The basis for his assessment has not been made public in the information available.
