NECO releases 2026 SSCE results, reports 58.67% pass rate

Nigeria’s National Examinations Council has released the results of its 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination for school-based candidates, reporting that 804,948 of the 1,371,992 candidates who sat earned at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. The figure represents 58.67 per cent of candidates who sat, according to NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, who announced the results at a briefing in Minna on Thursday. NECO also reported that 1,162,118 candidates, or 84.70 per cent of those who sat, earned five credits or more regardless of whether English Language and Mathematics were among them. The results were released 63 days after the examination ended on July 23, Wushishi said. A total of 1,378,048 candidates registered, including 682,352 males and 695,696 females. Of those, 1,371,992 sat for the examination. NECO said 1,334 candidates with special needs participated. The council reported 1,406 candidates booked or involved in examination malpractice, compared with 3,878 in 2025. That is a decline of about 63.7 per cent, based on NECO’s figures.
