NDC Disowns OK Movement Campaign Council Amid Internal Tensions

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has publicly disowned a Presidential Campaign Council announced by the OK Movement, a support group for its presidential candidate Peter Obi and running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for the 2027 general elections. In a statement on Saturday, NDC National Chairman Cleopas Moses declared the announcement unauthorized, stating it did not emanate from the party and should be disregarded. The OK Movement, led by John Ugulu, had unveiled a 59-member campaign council earlier in the week, comprising zonal and state coordinators to mobilize support for Obi and Kwankwaso. However, Moses emphasized that only the party leadership has the authority to constitute and announce a Presidential Campaign Council. He warned that no individual, candidate, or support group is authorized to establish campaign structures without prior approval from the National Working Committee. Moses further stated that Ugulu has been referred to the party's disciplinary organ for excesses during the Lagos State primary election and repeated disregard for party authority.
