NC Democratic Candidate Faces Condemnation Over Inflammatory Posts

A Democratic candidate for the North Carolina House of Representatives is facing widespread condemnation after inflammatory social media posts surfaced, including a photo at the Dachau concentration camp memorial with a caption suggesting Trump supporters belong there. Shelly Headen, the nominee for House District 62, posted the photo on Facebook with the caption, "Visiting Dauchau Concentration Camp in Germany This is where Trump supporters belong." The post, first reported by other outlets, shows Headen smiling in front of crematorium ovens at the memorial site in Germany, where tens of thousands were murdered during the Holocaust. The controversy intensified with the resurfacing of other past comments. In a 2025 Facebook comment, Headen wrote, "I think our only hope is an attack on US soil preferably Alabama, Louisiana where the stupid people live." She also posted, "Ready for the MAGAs to die off!!" and commented that "America is beyond peaceful protest" in reference to the fatal shooting of former UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The North Carolina House Democratic Caucus swiftly withdrew its support.
