National Fish Chip Awards names Takeaway of the Year Top 40

The National Fish Chip Awards has announced a Top 40 longlist for its Takeaway of the Year category, advancing fish and chip shops from across the UK to another round of judging. The winner is scheduled to be announced at a ceremony in London on February 24, 2027. The shortlisted businesses will face further assessments by judges drawn from the sector. The evaluation will cover food quality, hygiene, environmental and operational sustainability, customer service and industry knowledge. Twenty shops are expected to progress to the semifinals, with the Top 10 due to be revealed in the coming months. Regional contenders include Hennighans Fish Chips Bottom Shop in Machynlleth and Farnhams Fish and Chips Boverton in Llantwit Major, the two Welsh shops identified on the longlist. Hennighans co-owner Jemma Hennighan-Evans said the recognition was a source of pride and humility, and credited the team and local customers for supporting the business. Three London-area contenders named in the reports are Chipping Wharf Fish Chips in Bow, Fish! Kitchen at Borough Market and Harrows Skipjacks. The Cottage in Blackpool was identified as the only Lancashire shop on the list.
