Nasdaq hits intraday record high on tech and oil rally

Published 23 September 2026

The Nasdaq Composite touched an intraday record high on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, climbing above its previous intraday peak of 27,190.21 set on June 1 as technology stocks regained ground and falling oil prices lifted risk appetite. The index traded between roughly 27,211 and 27,231 during the session, with one reading showing it up 0.3 percent at 27,212.68 and another showing a 0.40 percent rise to 27,231.59. The move followed a record close of 27,122.09 on Monday, September 21, the first record closing high since early June. The rally capped a sharp recovery for the tech-heavy benchmark, which had fallen more than 10 percent from its late-July intraday high amid concerns that artificial intelligence spending would weigh on profitability. The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average had already reached record highs in early August, making the Nasdaq the last major index to complete its recovery. Direction of the Dow during Tuesday's session was reported inconsistently. Early readings showed the blue-chip index rising 155.42 points, or 0.30 percent, to 52,204.
