Nanny McPhee Musical to Premiere in London in Summer 2027
A new stage musical adaptation of Nanny McPhee, featuring a book by Oscar-winning actress and screenwriter Emma Thompson, will receive its world premiere in London's West End in summer 2027. The production marks the first time the beloved story of the magical nanny has been adapted for the theatre. Thompson, who wrote and starred in the 2005 film Nanny McPhee and its 2010 sequel, has penned the book for the musical and co-written the original lyrics with Gary Clark, the frontman of the band Danny Wilson. Clark has also composed the music for the production. The musical is based on the Universal Pictures and Working Title films, which were inspired by the Nurse Matilda character created by author Christianna Brand and illustrator Edward Ardizzone. The story follows the mysterious Nanny McPhee as she arrives at the chaotic Brown household, where a group of unruly children have driven away every previous nanny. Armed with her distinctive stick, unconventional methods, and a touch of magic, she sets out to restore order while teaching the family important lessons.
